Ray Allen was born in Dothan, Alabama. His family moved to Birmingham when he was 2. Ray's dad was a CPA and a Professor at Samford University and later at Jefferson State College. Ray's mom was from Boston and met his dad while he attended Harvard University where he received his masters degree.

Ray is married to the former Roxanne Burroughs and together they have 3 children and more grandchildren than Ray can keep up with. Really they have 6 grandchildren with one more on the way.

Ray came to Northport to attend the University of Alabama and worked for the legendary Clyde Price at WACT radio. Ray got his degree from the University in 1973. As a student he marched with the Million Dollar Band. As a young reporter he spent time with Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, learning at the feet of the master.

Ray has worked in Communications and Advertising in the Tuscaloosa Northport area for almost 30 years. He joined Network Telephone Corp in 2000 and is a Senior Account Executive for the Pensacola based communications company. He is a member of the Admirals Club for outstanding sales acheivement.

Ray has served his city and state as Vice Chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party and as a member of the Northport City Council.

His hobbies include restoring historic homes, reading gardening  and feeding the birds that flock to the back deck.
