Thinking of Testing for HIV or Syphilis?

About HIV Antibody Testing:

You can get tested on the same day you call AIM.

Testing protocols are simple, easy and confidential.

You will sign a consent form indicating that you understand what the test is and you agree to have the test done.  A trained AIM employee will provide you with the answers to any questions concerning the test prior to the test.

You may select OraSure HIV Testing (no needles) or the traditional blood draw.  If you select testing via OraSure HIV Antibody Testing the results will be available to you in four working days.  If you select HIV antibody testing via blood draws the results will be available to you in two weeks or 10 working days.

AIM will not provide results via telephone, fax, or email.

You must return to our office to receive your results, that is for your privacy.  If you tested at a health fair, college campus, or other venue... we will return the results to you.  We asked that all individuals who test with us at off site venues please return for your results.

If you test HIV positive AIM staff will link and/or refer you to the appropriate medical facility for health care.  AIM staff will also provide you with linkages to agencies providing emotional and mental health support.

AIM provides testing for syphilis via blood draw.  For more information regarding testing for Syphilis contact us at (205) 781-1654 and ask for Gail.  Testing is Confidential.

Everyone have the right to know their status!  Do You Know Yours?

HIV antibody testing and Syphilis testing is Free.  Get the Facts and Get Tested.

Question One

Is there a cure for HIV?

Right now there is no know cure for AIDS, and no vaccine that prevents it.  But fortunately, the AIDS virus is hard to catch and that's what makes it preventable.

Question Two

How do I Discuss Safe Sex With My Partner

First of all, learn as much as you can about AIDS.  Second, be frank.  AIDS kills, so the thing you don't want to do is put yourself at risk.  If you have oral, anal, or vaginal sex with an infected person, chances are you will become infected to.  That means man to woman, man to man, woman to man, woman to woman, all of it!  Right now the most effect way to prevent AIDS besides not having sex is to use a condom from start to finish.
