STIGMA AND HIV and Factors which contribute to Stigma:

HIV/AIDS is a life-threatening disease and people are afraid of getting HIV.

The disease is associated with behaviors (men who have sex with men, injection drug use) that are already stigmatized.

People living with HIV are often though of as being "responsible" for becoming infected.

"Religious or moral beliefs that lead some people to believe that HIV/AIDS is the result of moral fault that deserves to be punish."

For STIGMA & HIV Workshop contact Tony at Jefferson County AIDS in Minorities, Inc., 205-781-1654.
